second mountain. bow.

The second mountain to appear in my blog is my second mountain in Korea, Mount Ongnyobong. This mountain, visible via Google Earth (search Pusan, then zoom out to Koje, should be within the vicinity), is right accross our company.

One tradition observed by Koreans is offering food, alcohol, and money at the mountain's peak and then taking a humility bow in its front. After which you take back the money and consume the alcohol and food while resting. I remember leaving a Philippine peso coin winter last year when we went to Ongnyobong, less than a month after setting foot in this peninsula. Posted by Picasa

i got me up so high

Fall is the best season to climb mountains in Korea with the magnificent colors of the trees changing hues and the clear blue skies.

This is me on top of Mangsan last Spring season. Under 400 m, it is a relatively easy climb. San is mountain. This Sunday, I will be climbing again in style as I join Cynthia, our company receptionist and three of her friends in a package tour climb of a mountain in the Jeollanamdo province. Should be fun! Posted by Picasa

happy United Nations Day!

Filipinos, Koreans, Indians, and Romanians. Our final day in the Tribon drafting class last year.

Tonight in our Korean language class, I will be studying with our Korean teacher, American, French, Puerto Rican, Malaysian, Argentinian, Ecuadorian, and my fellow Filipinos.

It's a small, small, world.

birthday party time again!

A typical birthday party celebration almost everywhere in the world includes friends, cake, the singing, clapping and cheering. Here was Dennis's birthday celeb last april, exactly a week before mine.

I am headed off to yet another fun party! Posted by Picasa

someone installed Picasa in his office!

Blogging in the office is a bonus. Figured I need the photo software to keep track of my pics I use for work.

I love it when I have to use photography with my work. Pic above is my most critical item at work: this is the firefighting equipment of our project. See the chains? To be connected to it is the hose, problem is the vertical piece of steel is blocking its way.

Hope I did not sound so technical! Posted by Picasa

sometimes, Korean dinners look like this

Western table setting . Mr Lee's birthday celebration last Thursday in Koje Island Hotel Restaurant. For good steaks in our island, try the Koje Art Hotel Restaurant.
And yes, we were early for the party.

Tonight will be another long party as fellow pinoys June and Nina celebrate theirs! Posted by Picasa

dinner time Korean style!

Many plates, many dishes. This is typical Korean dining.

Just came home from Mr Lee's birthday dinner party. Mr Lee is the guy next to Jack, the one wearing a blue shirt. Jack and his housemate Carlo sandwhiches Mr Lee in this pic. His family are the girls. And this family, the housemates consider their Korean family. The catch here is that this picture was taken last month.

And I was told, Koreans in this pic could sue me since I did not ask their permission to blog their pic!

So help me God. Posted by Picasa

Korean lesson starts today

Not only in my blog but in my real life as I just came from my intermediate Korean language class: twice a week, 2 hours per session.

This reads as naemse nanun umshikun shiroyo. Naemse is alcohol and umshik is food. Nun is the subject particle. Shiro means something like not to. So, alcohol and food aren't allowed.

Will update when I confirm this. Just sure bout umshik and article nun.

Update: naemse is smell. So it is more like food with bad smell aren't allowed. Alcohol doesn't seem to be in the phrase. Korean for alcohol is sul. Posted by Picasa

stargazing in Korea

Besides the good films I saw in the 10th Pusan International Film Festival, there was this guy named Erik, part of a boygroup named Shinwa (myth). I actually do not know him nor listen to their group, but just thought of sharing this. This was an interview on the rooftop of the building on the earlier post.

Not my first time though to see Korean stars: last year, a television drama was shot right inside the building where I am working. As usual, I do not know who those stars are.

One hot star I would like to see but missed was Lee Hyo Ri, who shot another TV drama Four-Leaf Clover in our shipyard. Posted by Picasa
